In news of the awesome (over the busy past 10 weeks):
I survived paper writing for class. I ended up getting an A.
My punk rock can can troupe is taking off. So far we have two gigs, both in May, with the possibility of performing at a hge sci-fi/fantasy convention (of all things!) later this year.
I finally sucked it up. I'm applying to Lesley University this summer. I'm going back to school part time ( eventually transitioning o full-time next spring)to be a teacher---either a Reading Specialist (for the moderately to severely disabled) or English 8-12. My interview is on Monday and I have all my transcripts and reccomendations lined up.
My friends and I got together last week to take some sassy pin-up girl pictures, courtesy of Miss Kristin O. She and I have also fiddled about with the idea of working together to create a calendar od modern pinup girls. Not Suicide Girls-style, but more reminicient of retro cheesecake shots and focused more on capturing the women ( who we envision all to be young artists) in their workshop/studio environments. I 'll try to post my pictures once they are ready. My favorite shot is of me in full can can regalia sitting on a toilet (seat closed obviously) in my friend Renee's kitschy bathroom reading an ancient Mojo magazine with Sid Vicious on the cover.I feel it pretty much sums my attitude up nicely.
in concert news:I am seeing Mick Jones, formerly of the Clash, with his new outfit, Carbon Silicon, at a sold out show at TT the Bears on Saturday! On April 16, I am going to see Girl in a Coma, a new band discovered by Joan Jett. They are a three piece female punk band from Texas.
I am waitressing again at Club ART. W00t for tips! The show is called "Elections and Erections," a one man show ( done mostly in drag)by a South African performer, Peter Dirk-Uys, which touches on the serious issues of apartheid and AIDS using very smart satire. This doesn't diminsh the importance of the subjects, but conveys their importance without coming off as overly pedantic or preachy.
In body news, I lost as ass-load (literally) of weight. I can fit into a size 2 skirt and 4/6 jeans! Mystifying for moi, who never seemed to be able to reach below a curvy size 10. I don't put too much stock in impossible body images, as you know, but I just feel healthier at this weight than I did before. Plus i attained my fittness goals by making smart decisions in my life: exercising every day and sticking to a mostly vegetarian diet ( I occasionally will have white meat at this point)
Even better, my muscles are looking pretty awesome and my core strength has improved leaps and bounds. I feel very healthy. I am proud of myself for conquering my addiction to sugar and junk food.
I am going to Paris, Provence, and Brittany in @ 7 weeks. Frenchy has even consented to catch a can-can show with me at the Moulin Rouge itself, because he knows it is important pour moi.
Tax season didn't totally cripple me. Not great, but I am getting a whopping $8 back from the government.
I was offered a job doing makeup for a children's production of CATS ( starring 75 children under age 11). I graciously declined.
I wrote a righteously indignant letter to the Weekly Dig defending burlesque dancers after a nasty letter appeared the previous week deriding burlesquers as illegitimate artists because they take off articles of clothing . It should appeared last week and I got a lot of positive feedback from it from my sassy office ladies.
I've become addicted to "watch instantly" tv shows on Netflix. I watched all of 'Dexter' (amazing!) and am currently addicted to "The L Word," where I am on season 3. It's so ridiculously dramatic--I love it! Plus the last few episodes have featured Alan Cumming (yum) as a guest star which makes it even better.
Speaking of addiction: MAC eyeshadows. Need I say more?
Much love to ya'll in LJ land.
